Day 5 + 6 Overall: Well, well, well.  My first weekend with the cleanse…boy was it challenging.  On Saturday (Day 6) I was a pill.  I had a very short temper, was pretty tired, and was really hungry.  It also was my first time out in a social setting on the cleanse.  We had a surprise party that day and I was surrounded by booze, gluten, and dairy and I wanted it all, every crumb every drop.  I wanted it BAD. Snacking on their raw broccoli and carrots was not cutting it for me that day and my head felt completely out of it, which wasn’t good for maintaining party conversations. I ate Veggie Grill right before the party, but it didn’t feel like it.  So I ate a handful of crackers to bring back my attention span and energy.  I felt stabilized soon after. No regrets on my end, because I was not heading in the right direction had I not munched on the crackers.  In the future, I will keep some sort of snack in my purse just in case. 

The day before (Day 5) I was as my previous days, just a bit more tired.

Clean Cleanse Day 3 + 4: Exercise

Clean Cleanse Day 3 + 4: April 23rd, 2014

One of the fundamentals of the Clean Cleanse is to get moving, go for walks, do light workouts, sweat, etc.  I look forward to the day that I’m able to do all that normal stuff.  I sprained my tendon at the beginning of February going mad crazy with a daily row, a daily mile run with the dogs, a somewhat daily session of BUTI Yoga, along with riding my bike to and from row class.  The ambition and drive were high as I wanted to get ready for our Hawaii trip in March.  Apparently that drive was too high for my left foot!

So that picture above is what my “workouts” at home now look like…shame on you if you thought something else was going on!

I have to stay off of my foot as much as possible for it to heal, which can leave a gal stir crazy (plus boyfriend and dogs, mind you!).  I have to get creative to keep moving while stationary. I workout with elastic bands while laying on the floor to bring the tone back into my legs, along with sit-ups, and boring weight training.  I incorporate 5 min floor work sessions throughout the day. A couple times a week I’m with my trainer and we do floor work and seated weight training as well. I go on mini-walks, 1/4 – 1/2 mile three times a week to stop and smell the roses.

The good news is that my physical therapist who I see once a week says I’m healing quite quickly, more quickly than expected.  The sweat is on the horizon. In the meantime, I will book an infrared sweat session, to retrain my pores how to sweat!  Plus, it will be molto excelente to show those toxins the door.

Since the Clean Cleanse is an anti-inflammatory diet, I’m sure it will do home healing magic on my tendon, which I welcome with open arms!

Day 3 + 4 Overall: Lots of thirst as I’ve experienced on days 1 and 2. Drinking lots of water. Lots of bathroom breaks. On the evening of day 3, I was a little snippy which I blame on my small piece of salmon I had with lunch.  Day 4 I made sure to have lots a generous portion of turkey at lunch (of course with veg galore: artichoke, asparagus, and arugula + quinoa) and I see my humor is much better!  My skin feels hydrated and soft. My nose is dewy oily in the mornings and my teeth feel really clean throughout the day…how’s that for some weirdo outcomes! Oh, and today I felt even more weird and uninterested calling Peter Luger’s Steakhouse for a reservation in June for our NYC trip…this cleanse is doing wonders to make me not want to touch a Peter Luger steak!

Clean Cleanse Day 2: Water + Rest

Clean Cleanse Day 2: April 22nd, 2014

I had such a restful sleep last night. It was sooooo0 delicious, I believe I stayed in one position the whole night!

Upon waking, I threw on some clothes and headed to Trader Joe’s to load up on frozen berries and pineapple, leafy greens, turkey, and salmon. Back home I made my breakfast shake with pineapple, mixed berries, green apple, scoop of Green Vibrance superfood green powder, and the Clean Cleanse vanilla shake packet. I decided to do the same for the evening shake, but kick it up a notch with ginger. Watch out world, there is a cleansing renegade on the loose.

For lunch, I pulled out my cilantro oil I made a couple of days ago. Which is basically a version of pesto minus the pine nuts and dairy.  I laid a couple turkey breast cutlets in a baking dish and spooned the cilantro oil over the top, then put them in the oven to bake.  As my cilantro turkey was cooking, I made brown rice, steamed some brussel sprouts with lemon, and roasted asparagus with lemon and salt. I spooned some cilantro oil over my rice and mixed it together…because it is that good.

My kitchen assistants (a.k.a. my dogs) were eagerly awaiting to join in on the cleanse, so I fed them the tough asparagus trimmings. Every vegetable is always a hit with these two, my boyfriend says I turned them into hippies! Oh, and they love green juice too. True story.

In the evening, I had my mixed berry-pineapple-apple shake with a kick of ginger. Bombastic.

Overall: I will say the biggest change I’m experiencing on day 1 and 2 is thirst. I am craving and drinking water all the time. My hunger levels are same as usual, hungry in the morning, hungry in the afternoon, hungry in the evening.  I do not feel starved. I do not feel tired. And I have this grandiose desire to make antioxidant abundant lunches every day, which is the best takeaway this cleanse can give me!

Clean Cleanse Day 1: Shakes, Naughty Dogs, & Roses

April 21, 2014: First day of Dr. Alejandro Junger’s Clean Cleanse

Three days prior to starting the cleanse, The Clean Program advises to eat three meals a day from the Cleanse Diet, a list of approved foods such as salmon, turkey, herbs, quinoa, leafy greens, etc. To be honest, I was not a good pre-cleanse student with Easter weekend. Let’s just say I am guilty of wine and gluten…I know I’ll get served royally for this rebellion.

Thrilled to begin a wholesome three week cleansing, I started off my morning with a blueberry, avocado, vanilla shake.  I throw in frozen blueberries, 1/2 avocado, a scoop of my Green Vibrance superfood green powder, and a vanilla Clean Cleanse shake packet into the blender with a dash of stevia.

The shake was very filling.  It was a bit bland yet sweet, in need of a bit of zing. Noted: tonight’s shake needs a more tangy kick.

After, I set out my frozen salmon to defrost for lunch, then worked out with my trainer.  No difference in workout energy today, I felt strong on my first day of the cleanse.  Mind you, my workouts have been extremely modified since I strained my tendon in my foot, so it is mainly seated weight training, no cardio.  (I cannot wait to exercise normally again)

My mom met me after for a stroll around my neighborhood to admire the roses.  I don’t know what is in the magic soil here, because the roses are so gutsy, humungous, and tall!  I’ll include photos of them in the coming days as I do some cleanse mini-walks.

We get home to find that my dogs went to town on my defrosting, raw salmon and the other half of my avocado.  Well there goes that lunch plan…

Veggie Grill to the rescue for lunch…thank goodness! I had steamed kale with roasted vegetables, quinoa, and miso gravy. Such a godsend when I don’t want to eat lunch at home or am, how else do I put it, LAZY.

Snacked on an apple around 5pm, then at 6, I unleashed the tangy madness for my dinner shake. Pineapple, green apple, and raspberries did the trick. Hell yeah, shake gods.

The Clean Cleanse: My 21 Day Journey

Starting today, April 21st, I’m embarking on a 21 day cleanse with Dr. Junger’s Clean Cleanse and I’m taking you with me.  I will be journaling daily on Goddess Huntress with my experiences, challenges, skin health perks, and recipes.

Recipes? Yes, recipes.  Clean Cleanse is not a juice cleanse, you get to eat!  The Clean Cleanse provides daily breakfast and dinner shakes that you can personalize with fruits, vegetables, spices, etc..
