Shikai Coconut Hand & Body Lotion

Goddess Huntress | Coconut Shikai Hand & Body Lotion

It is no secret.  I’m a HUGE coconut fan.

I try to be surrounded by it on the daily. Being that I don’t trust hotel room offerings, I always bring my moisturizer in tow.

Prior to our Hawaii trip, I picked up Shikai Coconut Hand & Body Moisturizer. It smells delicious, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t ruin your clothes a few minutes later. The scent is not overpowering, nor lingers past your scent curfew (I, on the other hand do not have a coconut fragrance curfew). Fantastic to have at your office desk for some vacation time at work.

A simple moisturizer that goes along way with coconut, borage oil, shea, and aloe.  An easy island go-to.

Tata Harper Beauty Sets

Goddess Huntress | Tata Harper Travel Set

Hypnotic exotic florals with a simple pump of a bottle.

A solid travel companion is definitely a Tata Harper Beauty Set.  No need to haul your big bottles, transfer formulas into (gasp) plastic travel bottles, or forgo your good stuff for the not-so-good stuff from the travel size section of the drugstore (double gasp).

Tata Harper’s products all exude the sensual and happy fragrances of flowers, as a large percentage of her floral ingredients are cultivated at her 1200+ acre farm in Vermont. In Hawaii, it echoed the floral scent from the plumeria in my hair, to all the island flowers surrounding me…Hello, heaven!

Every morning, I used the Regenerating Cleanser, Hydrating Floral Essence, and Repairative Moisturizer before starting my island day, leaving my skin plump with hydration and a smile on my face from how gorgeous each product smelled. It left a perfect canvas for my foundation oil.

Tata’s Travel Sets are a great way to be transported to an island from home.  They are also a wonderful way to try a few of her products at once before you purchase a full-sized bottle and there are a few sets to choose from. Plus, how can you resist that rich, gorgeous velvet bag it comes with?

I know I can’t.

Get yours HERE.

Goddess Huntress | Aloha Stay tuned tomorrow on GH Aloha Week, where I’ll share a delicious body moisturizer…hint: I’m coo coo for coconuts!

Foundation Oil

Goddess Huntress | Foundation Oil

So in 2014 I’ve decided to take on foundation and drop my attitude that it looks caked and fake.  So I’ve been playing around with foundations on some days to even skin tone.  I am a fan of a dewy, glowing face that isn’t overdone.

Being that I loved the tone of my moisturizing Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer, I dropped 2-3 drops of Meow Meow Tweet Facial Oil onto a small dab of concealer in my palm and mixed together with my finger, then applied all over on a freshly moisturized face.  Voila! Way better than a tinted moisturizer and just as easy to apply.

Tarte + Meow Meow Tweet are my dewy hula duo.

I get a youthful aloha glow with an even skin tone for day or evening with minimal to moderate coverage. (I reapplied in the evening)

I sported this combo every day in Hawaii last month; it is perfect for warm and humid climates.  No precious application needed, which is a perfect glow for an island vacation or day to day.  (I will be doing the same this weekend for the Coachella Music Festival).

After application, proceed with bronzer, blush, or powder if needed.

Do you have any foundation tricks? Enlighten us in the comments below.

*Meow Meow Tweet review is coming next week…oils that I LOVE!

Goddess Huntress | Kona

Last month Andrew and I were blessed with a trip to Hawaii for a little R&R.

I had my first surf lesson in Kona which wasn’t so successful (note to self: don’t take surf lessons that are offered by lava rocks and with an instructor who doesn’t know your name nor introduces himself).  Even though I gashed my arm, I’m ready to try again…elsewhere…(and Andrew is super proud of my scar!).  Whales breached 20 feet from us and were underneath our boat during our National Geographic-esque whale watching trip, which was phenomenal and filled with awe.   Then my mind was fully blown by Pomaika’i Brown, the Hukilau Cafe chef from 50 First Dates, who serenaded us at a couple luaus.  50 First Dates is one of my favorite movies of all-time…poor guy must think I’m a nut case taking 20 photos with him!

Over in Oahu, I got to meet Andrew’s extremely accommodating college friends and stayed in a beachfront house made entirely of coral (yes, all coral), which was absolutely divine.   Across the street from the coral house was Kualoa Ranch, where parts of 50 First Dates was filmed…which meant more geeking out on my part! We ate like locals and cooked like locals.  Hey kimchi, poke, Aloha Maid juices, and Foodland, I’m coming back for you!

Being that I fell head over heels in love with the islands, I had to make another week of it.  This time it is with you. Let’s all go on an island vacay together on Goddess Huntress!  No flights to board, just check in here every day this week for some aloha beauty and a bonus aloha Beauty Bite recipe on Friday!

Enjoy our pics!

Heather’s Story

Mesothelioma. You are familiar with the word, but are you familiar with what mesothelioma is, does, and what causes it?  April 1st-7th is Mesothelioma Awareness Week and I’d like to bring it to the forefront.

As of two weeks ago, I only knew that mesothelioma was linked to asbestos.  The only way I knew that much was from all the years of lawsuit ads that play regularly on television.  Nor did I know about the common products that may contain asbestos.

I recently was introduced to the Von St. James family, a family that are experts on the disease.  Heather Von St. James, was diagnosed with mesothelioma right after giving birth to her daughter.  She also was given a grim prognosis.  Those that are diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma rarely beat the disease and it is common to not pinpoint the signs of the disease during the early stages. On average, mesothelioma takes 35-50 years to appear after exposure to asbestos.  Heather was diagnosed at 36 years old, which is extremely young for mesothelioma.

Watch her story below, it has a happy ending. (hint: she is a survivor and is thriving)

Now being introduced to mesothelioma through Heather, I wanted to share her insight directly on Goddess Huntress.

GH/ Your story and outcome are so moving, Heather. It must be so surreal and blissful to have the life you have now.  Positivity is your greatest gift.  How did you maintain your positivity daily as you were going through treatment?

HVStJ/ It wasn’t easy but when it got tough, I would pray and pray some more, I would beg God to give me the strength to get through. Sometimes it was to get through the day, sometimes it was to get through the next minute. I would look at my daughter, this innocent little girl who didn’t ask for a sick mom. I looked forward to the future with her. I saw what she could become, and my attitude would play a big part in who she would develop into.. that right there was reason enough to stay positive.

GH/ Your exposure from asbestos was from your father’s work in construction.  If someone thinks they may have been exposed to asbestos, can they be tested for it?

HVStJ/ Unfortunately there is no test. I wish there was, as it would alleviate a lot of worry. There is such a long latency period between exposure and onset of symptoms that most people aren’t even aware they were exposed until it is too late. It is one of the many horrible things about mesothelioma.

GH/ What are some other common products that may contain that we may not know about?  How has your living environment changed?

HVStJ/ Duct tape, brake pads, joint compound and certain speckling pastes and caulking. It is also in some cement products and roofing products as well.  The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s web page has a good list of products..

My living environment has changed a lot. We moved into an old house, and have done a lot of work to either encapsulate old asbestos or have it abated. We have done something to pretty much every part of the house from siding, and roof, to remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms. I know now that no asbestos containing products used on the new parts of my home.

GH/ You are so beautiful, I bet positivity is your biggest beauty secret.  Any way you can bottle that up and put it on store shelves? Ha!  Willing to share a clean beauty secret of yours?

HVStJ/ Aww!!! Thank you!!! My secret? Good genes and a GREAT photographer!! In all seriousness, I was a salon professional before I got sick, so I’ve always been interested in the beauty aspect of things. I’m a total make up and skin care junkie and love products!! I believe looking good; in turn it makes me feel good. I used to go to chemo dressed to the nines and in full make up. I might have been sick, but I was darned if I was going to LOOK sick!  It’s all in the attitude. :)

Sage advice…Positive attitude.

Cheeky Monkey Nail Polish + Giveaway

Goddess Huntress | Cheeky Monkey Nail Polish Giveaway

This year, I just got acquainted with Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics, a spicy pants nail brand that is not only high quality, but  also 5 free!

5 free is always my M.O. 3 free just doesn’t cut it in my book.

You probably know that 3 free nail polish means that it is without the main nasty toxins: formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP).  5 free takes it two steps further sans formaldehyde resin/tosylamide and camphor.  Less is more.

Some of Cheeky Monkey’s color names will make you snicker and blush.  I’ve been sporting a great Cheeky Monkey nude on my fingers called No Bra for the past couple weeks.  Next week I’m moving on to Granny Panties, an opaque white…come to think of it, I’m going from topless to completely covered!

Cheeky Monkey’s full spectrum of 60 colors are also cruelty free!

To celebrate Goddess Huntress’ 5th birthday, Cheeky Monkey is giving away a nail trio to 2 lucky Goddess Huntress readers!

The first nail trio is a base coat (Wet Dream), a soft pink with a hint of berry (Bite Me), and top coat (I Like It On Top), pictured above first row at top from left to right. The second trio will include a shimmery champagne pink (Hoe Hoe Hoe), second row above.
